Camera Top Flashguns
How do I connect
the receiver ? |
Hotshoe flashes - These can be connected via
one of our hotshoe convertor cables. See pictures on the below.
Dedicated flashguns - Canon "Speedlites" such as the 550EX work in manual power
selection mode via a hotshoe adaptor. Other manufacturers may be similar,
however we have no personal experience to draw upon.
Flashes with sync lead - e.g. Metz
hammerheads
Either use the sync socket on the "Plus" type receiver, or the 1/4" female to
PC/Sync convertor as shown below.

How do I meter with a flash meter ? |
There are a couple of methods used. 1) Connect you flashmeter to the
transmitter (or an additional transmitter) via the short supplied sync cable.
Now just use the flashmeter to trigger your lights (remotely) and take your
reading.
2) Set your flashmeter to expect a flash. On the ever popular Sekonic 308B
meter this is achieved by selecting the mode where the flash symbol shows in the
top left corner then pressing the side button. The flash symbol will blink
to indicate it is expecting a flash. Now use the button on top of the
transmitter (or an additional transmitter) to trigger the lights and take your
reading.
The second method is the most popular. Many users just use the
histogram display on their DSLR to check exposure.
Note: MiniMagic trigger signals are not compatible with radio trigger systems
built into high end Sekonic meters.
