So... Why Is Radio Triggering So
Much Better ?
Let's look at the two alternatives:
PC Synch cable connection
- Nasty to use fiddly cables
- Unreliable connection
- Damage to cameras by high voltage
and/or currents utilised by the strobes
- Cables to trip over, usually
resulting in damaged strobe or bent terminals on
camera Looks unprofessional and is unprofessional

What About Those Infrared trigger devices ?
- These work so well in the showroom, but so
poorly in the studio.... and are notorious on location.
- In daylight or a studio with natural light,
they often are totally useless. There simply isn't enough
differential between the ambient light and the flash they emit.
Radio waves are not affected by light
- All the strobes need their cells to be
pointed in a direction that enables them to see the beam. That
is the wrong reason for selecting a lights position. Radio waves
are omni-directional
- Everything is working fine, then you move in
for that close-up, and unknown to you, you move the trigger beam
in front of the slave cells.. and the vital shot is spoiled by
strobes not firing. Been there, done that... many times. You can
be in front, behind, or in the next room... a radio slave will
still trigger

- Low cost infrared devices require too long to recharge, they
are after all a small flash gun with a coloured lens, nothing
more. Don't add another bottle-neck to stop you getting the
shot. Radio devices do not need to recharge between shots.
- Infrared triggers won't work in many situations such as
product shots in light-cubes. 5-0 to radio triggers.
